Case studies
Why genuine project case studies are one of the best SEO assets a local business can build.
One properly written case study naturally contains the service, the location, the problem, the solution, real imagery and real trust — without manufacturing a single line of 'SEO copy'. That's a rare combination, and most local businesses already have the raw material sitting in their job history.
What a useful case study contains
Ten things, in roughly this order.
- 01
The service or project type, stated plainly.
- 02
A broad location, where relevant to the work — a town or area, not necessarily a precise address.
- 03
The original problem the customer came with.
- 04
What the work actually required, in plain terms.
- 05
The approach taken and any decisions worth explaining.
- 06
Genuine challenges met along the way, not a frictionless highlight reel.
- 07
The finished outcome, described honestly.
- 08
Real photographs of the actual work, not stock imagery.
- 09
Genuine customer feedback, where you have it.
- 10
Links to the relevant service pages the project relates to.
Quality over quantity
Don't turn every tiny job into a thin page.
Not every job is a case study. A routine, hour-long callout with nothing distinct to say produces a page with a title and not much else — and a site full of those reads as padded, not prolific.
Choose the projects that had a genuine problem to solve, some judgement involved in solving it, and a result worth showing. Ten strong case studies beat eighty forgettable ones, for visitors and for search alike.
A case study is also content and proof at once — a rare case where the honest version of a page is also the more effective one.
Case studies and local intent
They do the work a location page tries to do.
A location page has to claim relevance to a place in the abstract. A case study proves it — a named area, a real job, a real customer. For a service-area business especially, a handful of genuine case studies spread across the towns you cover often say more than a page built for each of those towns ever could.
For how that fits alongside dedicated location pages, see service-area SEO and local SEO.
Case studies and AI search
No guarantees, just genuinely different content.
We can't promise a case study will be cited by an AI search tool, and we're wary of anyone who does — it's speculative, and the tools change faster than anyone can honestly test. What's true without speculation is that unique, first-hand content describing a real project is more useful and more differentiated than generic service copy that reads the same on a hundred other sites.
That's worth doing on its own merits — for visitors deciding whether to hire you, not for a guess about how a search engine will treat it next year.
